Prophetess Mattie J. Bass
February 22, 1917 - November 10, 2007
|
 |
The Bible declares that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
It is so wonderful to know that the Lord is the same today as He was ninety years ago. Holiness is the same today as it was
ninety years ago. God has commanded us to live holy lives before him, all the days of our lives.
God in His eternal
wisdom has seen fit to call home, from labor to reward: Mattie J. Bass, our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and
our beloved Pastor.
Pastor Bass was a faithful shepherd of the gospel, serving untiringly as an Overseer of many churches
in the United States and internationally. She preached salvation and holiness; she taught us not to compromise our identity
as women with new trends of the world.
We will cherish the memory of her unselfish life and we will continue to teach
and live those things we have been taught. We look forward to the time when we shall meet her in Glory.
The members
of the Seed of Abraham Pentecostal Church humbly submit to the will of Almighty God who knows and does all things according
to his purpose and glory.

DEAR [Saints] IN THE LORD,
ALLOW ME TO CONVEY ON BEHALF OF THE SOA
IN MALAWI AND MOZAMBIQUE OUR SOLEMN, CONDOLENCE AND GRIEVANCE STATEMENT TO THE SEED OF ABRAHAM PENTECOSTAL CHURCH ADMINISTRATION
AND THE BERIEVED FAMILY FOR THE HOME GOING OF OUR RESPECTABLE, DEAR, WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL, ENCOURAGING, ETC., MOTHER TO GO
AND STAY WITH THE LORD. MAY GOD ALONE GRANT US COMFORT IN SUCH A TIME AS THIS. 1 THESALONIANS 4:3
PASTOR EVANS KHOBIDI, GENERAL
OVERSEER [African Outreach Ministry]

The Federated Pentecostal Church acknowledges the home going of Pastor
Mattie J. Bass who departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Saturday, November 10, 2007.
Pastor Bass has
been a tenured member of the General Board of the Federated Pentecostal Church. Her faithful service spans several decades
during which time she willingly contributed her spiritual gifts, time, and resources for the up building of the kingdom and
the vision of this great fellowship of churches. Her legacy continues through the work of the National Youth and Women's leaders
who have served under tutelage.
Her ministry extended beyond the borders of her local church, the Seed of Abraham Pentecostal
Church. Pastor Bass frequently ministered internationally in India and Africa where she was an Overseer of churches there.
Following her overseas travel, she would readily expound of God's goodness to the Board during the Bishops' Summit.
Pastor
Bass operated in her spiritual gifts. She was also known as "Prophetess" Bass due to her sensitivity to the Spirit and her
willingness to foretell the move of God. She would often speak of the times and seasons to come as she was moved by the anointing
of the Holy Ghost. It was that same level of anointing and commitment to Ministry that enabled her to persevere following
the death of her beloved husband, Elder C. E. Bass in January, 1999.
We are saddened by the loss of her physical presence;
we rejoice in knowing that Pastor Bass has received he glorified body. She is now free from sickness, and can join with the
Apostle Paul in saying, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is
laid up for me a crown of righteousness . . ." (2 Timothy 4:7-8a)
. . .the Executive Board of the Federated Pentecostal
Church International, commend the life, accomplishments, and legacy of Pastor Bass and express our sincere condolences to
the entire Bass and Seed of Abraham Church families. May you find comfort during your time of bereavement in Psalm 116:15:
"Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints."
Bishop S. D. Lefall, President Bishop R. E. Taylor,
Vice-President Dr. Edna E. Travis, Executive Secretary

We were greatly distressed to learn of the passing of a dear friend, pastor
and mentor, Prophetess Mattie J. Bass.
It is difficult to explain in words the impact that this great woman of God
has had, and will continue to have, on the literally millions of people who are touched by the godly chain reaction that her
prophetic ministry has sparked. Those of us who have had the privilege of sitting under the ministry of this wonderful gift
of God will remember for a long time to come the power and clarity of her message, that Jesus Christ is, and must be King
of our lives, and that what we do or say carries meaning only to the extend that it points us and others to the sublime calling
of the Cross.
This message was the key to the extraordinary magnetism of this great woman of God, a magnetism that
commanded love without demanding. Until the day that we join her at God's great table, we shall remember her and be inspired
by her legacy, and we shall mention her in thanksgiving to the God who, in His great love and mercy, lent her to us but for
a brief moment of His eternal reign.
Prophetess Mattie, Mama - we shall miss that nurturing presence among us, not
just the pampering, the generosity of her house, the pancakes, the hugs, but also her laugh, her smile, and the very essence
of a truly special friend and shepherd we were so privileged to walk with.

... It gives me joy and sadness at the same time knowing that our Mother
and Friend, God's handmaiden has gone or rather has slept! Indeed we shall see her thats the joy part of it, she is now with
the Lord whom she so loved and well served! What an honour to have known this great woman and what a treasure she was to all
of us who had the chance to meet and hear her expound the truth of God's Word. I, for one, thank God for her and all the Lord
allowed her to do, be and accomplish! May the Lord send you the Holy Spirit to comfort you and all the saints. Shalom! Everjoyce

Our dearly beloved Pastor was a much loved leader of the SOA Youth Department.
On
November 7, 2007, the youth celebrated her last Holy Ghost filled service at her home.
...[Pastor] taught us to live
holy, to walk by faith and God doesn't make junk. We prize her memory and the many beautiful lessons of life she has taught
us and express our genuine appreciation of the wholesome influence she was able to exert.
Pastor dedicated her life
to helping others and teaching the word of God: providing an example of holiness throughout the world. There is no greater
blessing than a pastor who cares and lovingly remembers us in all of her prayers.
She lived the life she sang about
in her songs. She preached, "You must be born again" and "Holiness or hell."
She believed and trusted the written word
of God, therefore, teaching us uncompromising faith.
SOA Youth Department

To friends, family and congregation:
I want to extend my deepest
sympathy to you during this time of loss at the death of your Senior Pastor Mattie J. Bass.
[Pastor] Mattie gave us
an example of perseverance in the midst of challenges. Despite traditional views that women should not be church leaders,
[Pastor] Mattie served as a pastor for 40 years. During those years, she mentored many people who became pastors, evangelists
and teachers.
Pastor Bass had a great influence on the community and the people around her. Through her leadership,
many programs in the greater Seattle area were begun invluding jail, detention center and prison ministries; nursing home
and hospital ministries; and food and clothing ministries.
Her influence was also felt outside the local community.
As Pastor Bass personally visited various African countries and experienced their suffering, she directed that monthly relief
be sent to these countries to alleviate the hard conditions. She left the legacy that "everyone can do something."
Members
of the Seed of Abraham Church are part of the interwoven fabric that makes Renton the great community it is. As such, we share
in your loss and grief.
May Mattie J. Bass be honored and remembered as a great mother, friend, and teacher who was
always there to help those less fortunate.
Kathy Keolker Mayor

Today we celebrate the life of Mattie J. Bass, a woman of exceptional character
and faith, whose many years of faithful service have left an indelible mark on her Renton congregation and communities around
the globe.
Senior Pastor and founder of the Seed of Abraham Pentecostal Church and Worldwide Ministries, Mattie built
a tremendous legacy of ministry, compassion, and servant leadership. Her heart for people transcended all barriers and led
to numerous outreach programs in the local community, as well as relief efforts worldwide.
[Pastor] Mattie fully embraced
her life's mission and impacted countless people along the way. Her bold personality, insightful teaching, snd generous spirit
always left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have met her. She will be greatly missed, but I am confident
that her legacy will be a source of hope and inspiration for many years to come...
Christine Gregoire Govenor

Our hearts feel a huge loss today as we realize Pastor Mattie Bass has
gone home to meet the Lord. Though we rejoice knowing Pastor Bass is joining our Heavenly Father, we will miss her physical
presence and drive to share the gift of Salvation here on earth. She brought a sense of acceptance and understanding that
meant so much to those souls lost in the world, seeking help and direction. She gave them the greatest gift of all time, Jesus
Christ.
We are praying the church will be able to carry on her dream and legacy of sharing the Gospel, “Seed
Of Abraham” broadcasting on the radio Africa Network. Since 1997, when we were introduced to Pastor Bass and she shared
her vision, her dreams and goals to broadcast her spiritual teaching among the millions of listeners in Africa, we new right
away we had a special soldier of God among us. She had the ability to open up an inner world in one’s soul, making them
curious to seek the Word of God. We are forever humbled by her kind spirit, teaching and dedication to serve the God.
It
has been a blessing to serve her and her radio ministry, we will never forget her. She was a gift from God.

Dear Friends and Family of Pastor Mattie J. Bass and the Seed of Abraham Church,
...I feel so blessed to have
known Pastor Mattie Bass. I’ve always felt it was such a pleasure and an honor to be included whenever I’ve come
home to Seattle, to be a part of your Church Family, and the warm family feeling of those memorable holiday breakfasts at
Pastor Bass’ lovely home.
I know Pastor Bass has been a defining influence to the well-being of all who have
known her tireless caring and guidance. Without question, her leadership and friendship has been a familiar beacon of light
and hope to all who have come to know her and hear her messages— messages inspired by the scriptures, the Holy Spirit,
and the love of God. I feel enriched to have witnessed her inspired sermons for myself.
I am especially grateful to
know how vital Pastor Bass’ loving stewardship has been of my sister traveling over the years through many of life’s
joys and hardships.
Indeed, what a wonderful and loving tribute to have a Homegoing service for dear Mattie Bass who
is surely journeying homeward.

I was shocked to read that our beloved Pastor Bass had gone home to be
with the Lord. I wish to extend my condolences to her family and the church for this loss of a great woman of God. She fought
a good fight of faith and I counted it a privilege to have met her and come under her ministry during the years that she travelled
to Zimbabwe. We remain with very fond memories of a loving mother and Pastor. We know that she is now in a better place in
glory. With love Patison Sithole Deacon-Family of God

Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments
of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from the heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die
in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."
Revelation 14:12, 13
Prophetess Bass was a Minister of the Gospel, a distinguished Pastor, and of cheerful spirit.
She shared a dedicated friendship with our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Amos Landry, Jr. over the years. She showed loyalty, dedication,
and faithfulness to everyone who loved and knew her and was the faithful pastor of the Seed of Abraham Pentecostal Church
in Renton Washington.
Peoples Institutional Baptist Church extends our deepest sympathy, love, and charity to Prophetess
Bass' beloved daughter, Associate Pastor Lois Sharpe, and the entire Seed of Abraham Church family.

OUR BELOVED MOTHER BASS You are the first Pastor that WELCOMED us in the
land of the Americas. A Woman of God devoted to the unadulterated Word of God. You stood on nothing but the Word of God, Unwavering
and Unswayed by any other winds of doctrine. You are a true testimony of “God said it, I believe it, and that settles
it”. WE WILL MISS YOUR GENEROUS SMILE, YOUR CONSISTENCY IN THE WORD, and YOUR STAND AS A HOLY WOMAN OF GOD. You loved
us unconditionally You always embraced us whenever you saw us. Like flint you had your face fixed on God. We did not only
hear the word through your mouth we “SAW” God through you as He preserved your life to the end. Your fear of God
was evident in the way you carried and delivered the Word. Our Hearts are Filled with Thanks and Praise For the Gift You were
to All of Us. We trust the MASTER WILL SAY WELL DONE, THOU GOOD AND FAITHFULL SERVANT, YOU HAVE RUN THE RACE WITH PATIENCE;
We will be reunited in the skies. Thank You, Siyabonga. Tinotenda, Asante Sana With Much Love Thembelani N. Marshall

Words do not come easy to express what is in my heart regarding Pastor.
She was a General among Generals! The lost of her is vibrating throughout the Seattle/Renton area into world that she travelied
trying to reach other lost souls. My heart is full.

"THE WOMAN OF GOD WHO STANDS 4'9" BUT STANDS TALL IN
GOD"
This woman is a woman who trusted God for her very life and did not compromise in her trust in the Lord.
She
carried the Word of God in her heart and trust God's word for all it was worth.
She will be remembered as a woman who
told the world "JESUS SAID IT."
She let the world know that you can "CALL HIM BY HIS NAME." She asked one day "HAVE
YOU TRIED JESUS?"
She told the saints that the angels sang to her "JESUS IS HOLY, HOLY, HOLY."
She is a remarkable
woman with a true love for God.
To the family, be encouraged and strenghtened in the Lord. He has planned, purposed
and he will do what is right for his children.
Proverbs 3:5, 6: Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean
not to your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths.
We humbly submit
to the perfect will of God and we know that he will do all things well.
Reverend Dr. Bishop Richard E. Taylor Evangel
Temple and the United Full Gospel Church USA

Prophetess Mattie J. Bass was a devoted, faithful and committed leader
and servant of the Most High God. She taught us to reach out for the lost and dying, to preach the gospel at all cost, to
live holy everyday and not to compromise, to walk by faith and not by sight. She will be recorded in our church records as
our Pastor and Overseer of our church. She licensed and ordained us as ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ and installed
us as pastors of New Life Faith Christian Fellowship.
Under her leadership our lives were empowered with the Word of
God. We were taught holiness and righteousness and how to give the devil black eyes. We now stand on our own two feet, preaching
the gospel as she has taught us to be holy leaders of God.
We join her daughter, family members and the Seed of Abraham
Church family in a moment of sorrow and pain of her loss. Know that our prayers are with you, the family and the church family.
Pastor
Barry and Co-Pastor Catherine Collins Evangelist A. L. Williams, Associate Minister

Be it known that our earnest heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you
and your immediate family, as well as the Seed of Abraham's church family. Be it known, that we will certainly miss Prophetess
Pastor Bass and be it known that her diligent work and life of holiness live on in the lives of the multitudes of people she
[has] touched throughout the world.
